Dear Parents and Guardian
This has been an exceptional term at school with lots of exciting learning occurring in class and some great excursions including a trip to North West Island.
House Cup
We have had a change to the lead for the House Cup with Uluwatu taking over from Banzai. There are many great activities for our student to be involved with at lunch time making the daily experience at Sunshine Beach SHS even better.
Subject Expo
An afternoon for students and their families to discover what makes Sunshine SHINE!
Purpose: The School Expo is designed to provide an opportunity for parents and students to find out about courses and opportunities on offer in 2025 and 2026. The Expo sits within the school SETPlan and METPlan agenda. Parents and students will be able to talk with teachers, Guidance Officers, Heads of Department, senior students and Administration about the subjects offered in electives including Year 9 semester 2, Year 10 Prep subject and Year 11 & 12 Senior School at SBSHS. Information presentations will be run across the 3 school sectors and wellbeing support team.
There is also an opportunity to speak with representatives from universities and Tafe for pathways beyond our school. This is a great opportunity for senior students as they may be considering where next after Sunshine.

Subject Fees and SRS
At the subject expo, we will display any fees that may be associated with a chosen subject for 2026. There are many subjects that do not have an associated fee. Fee paying subjects cannot be chosen if there is outstanding subject fees for 2025. We will have staff present on the afternoon to accept outstanding fees or payment plans should this be required.
Subject fees contribute directly to the resources and materials required for students to fully engage in their chosen subjects and allow our school to offer the wide variety of subjects that the students enjoy. Many subjects do not have a subject fee and the students resources are funded under the Student Resource Scheme (SRS) or directly by parents who choose not to participate in the Student Resource Scheme which for 2025 is $300.
SRS Explained
Sunshine Beach State High School operates under the Queensland Department of Education’s Student Resource Scheme (SRS), which enables families to access high-quality learning resources—such as textbooks, equipment, and materials—at a significantly reduced cost. Participating in the SRS ensures students have everything they need for a smooth and successful learning experience.
Before the introduction of the Queensland Department of Education’s Student Resource Scheme (SRS), families were required to purchase all student learning materials themselves. This included textbooks, novels, stationery, software licenses, art and technology supplies, and other subject-specific equipment—often costing hundreds of dollars per student each year. Managing these purchases individually is both time-consuming and expensive, especially for families with multiple children at school. The SRS was introduced to make access to essential educational resources more affordable and equitable. By participating in the scheme, families benefit from significant cost savings, while students have seamless access to the materials they need for the school year. If you have elected on your students enrolment to be part of the Student Resource Scheme, your payment of this fee is greatly appreciated.
The Queensland Government supports students’ education by providing funding for:
• Instruction, e.g. teachers
• Facilities, e.g. buildings, amenities, furniture
• Administration, e.g. staffing and resources to administer the operations of the school.
Funding does not extend to individual student resources which is either purchased directly by the parent or supplied by the school to those who have indicate upon enrolment that they will participate in the school resource scheme.
We encourage all families to sign up for QParents
QParents is a user-friendly, free and secure way of making payments online, informing the school of attendance, checking timetables, providing consent, viewing academic reports and viewing upcoming events.
Additionally, you can easily update both student and parent details such as contact and medical information.
The school will send you a QParents invitation code and you can go ahead and register, it’s as easy as that. Please contact our office if you have not received an invitation code.
Consent Manager
Sunshine Beach SHS has moved to digital consent management to reduce the time spent on paper-based forms. Those that are registered in QParents will be able to respond to consent requests from within QParents app. We encourage parents and carers to sign up to QParents to ensure the school is receiving the consent for your student to attend excursions/camps etc.
Attendance
Daily attendance is of still great concern for a small number of our students. To assist with students learning and wellbeing it is vital that students have a high attendance rate. Our goal is for all students to have over a 92% attendance rate. Our wellbeing team will be in contact families to offer support for students with poor attendance. I would greatly appreciate all parents support in ensuring students attend school every day unless unwell.
Kind regards
